Initially, we start with discovering the student’s preferences within the classical music genre – what eras (Baroque, classical, contemporary), composers (Chopin, Beethoven, Rachmaninoff, and many others), and types of pieces (sonatas, nocturnes, preludes, etc.) they are interested in learning. If you aren’t sure yet and want to sample a variety of the above, we are happy to accommodate. We craft our lessons according to the student’s musical tastes and ambitions.
In addition, we make sure to teach proper technique (arm and hand gestures which allow you to play tension-free), musical expression, and music theory. Our lessons incorporate these skills through the exploration of classical repertoire, so that students can apply their knowledge practically to the pieces they are learning.
